Our Aim
BrainySongs' overarching aim is to promote curiosity about science and nature, stimulated through music and storytelling!
Our songs do more than merely cram content into the verses and hoping that children will pick some science up along the way. Instead, BrainySongs focus on carefully-placed key words and phrases, set to a specific science theme, which tell a story.
Our songs cater for specific topics at elementary and middle school level, yet will fit any curriculum. They are catchy acoustic songs and can be enjoyed by the whole family. Even pre-schoolers love BrainySongs, and although they may not be able to read the lyrics or use the worksheets, they can certainly benefit hugely through exposure to the songs. Effortlessly, even our youngest audience absorb new words and phrases. This method works equally well for second language learners. Science storytelling through our songs has proven to be a very effective learning tool, hence their popularity in International schools around the world as well as with home schooling communities. We are also delighted that our songs are finding significant use in teaching children with special educational needs.
BrainySongs produces accompanying learning resources to enhance learning still further, allowing children to deeply analyse the contents of the songs, prompting a cascade of questions surrounding each topic area.
We are always delighted to be sent pictures of children enjoying our songs. This one, from a small elementary school in the US
How it all started
As a science educator, teacher consultant and songwriter, the founder of BrainySongs, John Brain, decided to combine his talents in the creation of BrainySongs. He started writing science songs that are entertaining yet genuinely helpful in learning science and stimulate curiosity to find out more. Instead of merely setting science lyrics to well-known pop songs, he opted for writing original acoustic songs which tell stories through science.
John has now written songs for a large range of elementary and middle school science topics. The songs are packed with key vocabulary and phrases corresponding to specific topic areas and the music is certainly not toned down just because the listeners are young people. In fact, BrainySongs can be enjoyed by the whole family.
The accompanying learning resource packs, have proven extremely popular. Large numbers of taster packs have been downloaded and positively reviewed in Teachers Pay Teachers and the Times Educational Supplement (TES). They have been updated and are now available to you from our shop

Benefits to learning science through song
Songs are highly engaging and fun!
In addition to this songs:
are marvellous for building scientific vocabulary and key terms
are well-documented for building general vocabulary (language learners can learn English through science).
aid memorisation and serve as a mnemonic device through repetition and rhythmic patterns.
are relaxing and promote wellbeing.
enhanced cognitive abilities.
boost reading skills.
enhance creativity and imagination.
Songs are not meant to replace other activities in the science classroom or home education environment. They supplement and enhance it, providing variety and another mode of learning. When BrainySongs are used with our supplementary learning resources, like BrainySongs worksheets and lyric sheets, they become a powerful learning tool for young learners.
The above notes are based on evidence-based research (citations at bottom of page) together with the views and experience of BrainySongs.
